Notes for Nyx
Edicts
They're bits of Gig's power you can use to dominate (basically bind to your will) someone, steal from them, heal yourself, restore your energy, buff your group, debuff your enemies, find hidden paths, weaken and strengthen enemies, boost your own level for a short time, knock people away, give people gifts, fuse people, split squads, kidnap enemies (via dominate), trade bodies, convince targets that you're the best of friends (boosting friendship by 1% in stores and making the enemy follow you in battles), cure status ailments, grow plants, and beat the shit out of villagers.
A list.
Notes for Gig and Revya interactions
-Gig experiences everything Revya does while he's in his body
-However, Revya also gets to see his memories as dreams while you sleep
-They can talk silently to one another but both can be heard out loud too, though Gig doesn't need to use Revya's mouth to do it.
The World
Predesto has a bunch of races. And the humans are dicks to most of them!
We have the Sepp. Who are cow people. They're infamous for being basically Judai - energetic, but acts without thinking and not academically brilliant. They look human but have horns and hooves and sometimes wear bells.
We have the all-female Nereids, blue ladies with webbed fingers and toes who can breathe underwater and who have to rely on human males for reproduction. Humans are total pricks to them.
We have the Werewins. Winged people where the men raise the kids while the women are warriors.
Dracons are magic-users. They have branch-like horns.
And Redflanks look like minotaurs but have twelve-inch long horn, cleft hooves and foot-long tails.
And then there's a bunch of beast races and things.
Plot
We live in Predesto. Predesto is a country that's gone through some shit. It went from being war torn, to being united as an empire, to being war torn again ten years later after the guy that united it got shanked. And THEN about fifty years after THAT Gig shows up with the World Eaters (giant, insanely powerful monsters) and the world goes to shit even more until the Emperor's daughter seals him into the sword, which makes the World Eaters dormant...ish. They're still very dangerous.
Basically, Gig turned the world into a wasteland though, so even two centuries later, things are going poorly. They're struggling with crops, birth rate's decreasing, and the World Eaters are scaring the shit out of everyone despite being essentially frozen statues.
Anyway, two centuries later, Revya is living in an isolated village that's safe, for now. They've never left the village and are training to try to become guardians of it. Layna (who is still alive for reasons) decides to give Revya the sword, which ends up leaving them with Gig in their body. For whatever reason, he can't just yank control over Revya, he has to bargain for it. The more of his power Revya accepts, the more control Gig has, and eventually he intends to take over entirely. So Layna tells him/her to go find a way to kill the World Eaters. Your dumbass best friend (who is dumber than dub Joey if he'd fallen down the stairs and hit his head on every step, then gone and smoked some really strong weed, and is twice as aggressive) decides to tag along because she's upset she wasn't chosen to have to share her body with the big scary demon thing she only half believes exists.
Of course, when you go to check out the nearest World Eater, Danette gets us all in trouble with the guards surrounding it, and after we beat the hell out of them to defend ourselves, Feinne (the World Eater in question) gets woken up. Gig takes offense to her trying to eat his face, so he offers you a deal of "if you want her dead, I'll give you 2K extra levels RIGHT NOW but you gotta give your body over to me", which is actually really fucking fun by the way. Otherwise you just gotta kinda survive and run and go to the nearest town for info.
Where you get harassed by the soldiers AGAIN and then grabbed to go on a quest to murder Nereids 'cause they think they're going to attack them. Obviously, it turns out NOT to be the case.
They then decide to go after the weakest of the three World Eaters first... only now it has a cult worshiping it. Kanan, the guy I showed you a picture of, is part of said cult. Meanwhile, Gig is getting dreammemories of his past life and finding them increasingly confusing and irritating. Especially since Vigilance, the past Gig, is basically pre-X1 X.
After Danette gets captured by the World Eater, Thuris, an old Redflank from the village they grew up in saves her and we reunite to fight Thuris. World Eaters can't move, but they're immensely powerful and have an infinite number of uses of their special attack (while we are limited in ours). We kick his ass, however, and then he mocks Gig and leaves. Kanan also flees with Thuris' followers.
Meanwhile, civil war breaks out! Because this world can't stay peaceful for five minutes. Turns out the king's been betraying people and using magic to fuck them over and make his life better at their expense! His loyal commander discovers it, reports it to the people, and gets executed for it. The Nereids wind up taking in refugees, while we go to try to fight Feinne since there's hardly anyone guarding it now.
And then the king tries to control her using a Crimson Tear - a magical stone that can baaaasically do ANYTHING. As the plot demands it, it does it. It backfires. BADLY.
And Feinne wipes the capital off the map, killing him in the process. She then goes berserk, and Gig gets pissed off and gives Revya his power so they can kick the shit out of her. However, Feinne says something in a language only Gig recognizes. Something about a Wheel of Birth. And then dies.
And then Gig passes out.
While he sleeps, they have a dream memory where they find out that Layna died to Gig - and her body got possessed by one of the Gods that Vigilance used to be a part of, Virtuous, who *seems* to be trying to save the old him.
Meanwhile, the hidden village gets destroyed by Thuris! Layna drags everyone off to be refugees and sends us off on another sidequest. On the way, Gig remembers the time their goddess-of-gods Haephnes appointed him as Master of Death... explicitly because he was so fucking soft everyone yelled at him a lot, and she thought he'd be more compassionate than anyone else.
See, with Vigilance dead... nobody can get to the afterlife. Instead, they've wound up stuck in another world known as Drazil that's linked to ours but doesn't usually connect, because that world still has a Master of Death. The problem? Drazil is where the World Eaters... and Gig... came from.
Meanwhile, there's some fuckers deliberately spreading a rapidly fatal disease named Scarlet Iago around Predesto, and Thuris' cult is trying to open the path to Drazil. The Drazilians are UP to something and it involves fucking with our dead.
Meanwhile it turns out Thuris is behind the spread of the disease. And he dies for it. But not before eating his entire cult. And the third one is sealed away in another kingdom... and being kept restrained by sacrificing the lives of bought slaves. Except when we get there... it's unresponsive and Gig can't sense it. See...
It's been hijacking the body of said slaves. And is hanging out in our team right now OMG IT'S THE DUMB SEPP MALE THAT NOBODY LIKES.
Raksha, it turns out, is complete and utter dick who wants to rule the world. He's also very upset at Gig. Not because Gig was a shit to him. Because Gig is taking orders from Layna. We then get into a fight with Raksha. A "survive four turns" fight, because Raksha will kill us if we engage him. He's level 936.
Raksha is powerful enough that ten years ago he accidentally wiped out the Elsburgh Republic. Vaporized them in a single night. And he destroys at least one city right before the fight just to show us.
Soooo Revya and Gig develop a DBZ style fusion attack using the catchphrase "your ass is grass" as the trigger and their friend Endorph blows the weakened World Eater up.
Meanwhile it turns out that Median, the guy who killed Vigilant, got killed immediately afterwards but used sneaky magic to come back to life via a taboo spell and is handing out in Drazil. Where everyone is Revya. See as it turns out, the guys in charge of Drazil's life and death are basically YHVH. They reincarnate everyone as identical and control what they eat, what they do, the way they act. They basically went "nope, only identical people, nutritious food and strict regulations allowed, we will tell you what to feel so don't think for yourself". They consider the world perfect. And more so, they made the World Eaters and manipulated Gig into becoming a psycho since his soul wound up in their hands thanks to Median.
And also Revya's World Eater #4. A World Eater even GIG didn't know about. And Revya had no idea.
And then they summon the leader of their world, Drazil. Median shows up and makes Gig eat him so that he can end all of this shit. And then we find out why. Revya's original pre-World Eater incarnation was Median's kid, the son that died of Scarlet Iago. Only they can use the sword for that reason.
And then Gig sacrifices himself to use his full power to help us.
